Our story

About Us

Poppyfield Equestrian was established in 1996 by Simon Kettleboro and his daughter Jo. Jo had long been a keen rider, and together they wanted to give children the chance to see life from horseback — often a far bigger view of the world than they're used to.

Determined that riding shouldn't be reserved only for those with money to spare, but open to anyone with passion and enthusiasm, Poppyfield came into being. We're proud to be family-run, with a happy, close-knit team and yard.

We're BHS (British Horse Society) approved, meaning we're regularly inspected against high standards of safety, horse welfare and tuition, and we're also an approved Pony Club centre, running activity days and courses throughout the year — including "Own a Pony" days and exam days.

We cater for everyone from small children to adult learners, with everything from first ponies through to elementary-level and show jumping horses, plus hacks and treks through the surrounding countryside.
